Alternative medicine is making inroads into rural America and providing surprising results to those suffering from chronic pain; and it started with two country boys heading to Los Angeles, CA.

Ken Woods, co-founder and president of Kansas Regenerative Medicine based in Manhattan and with a background in ranching, said it started with him being told he needed a knee replacement.  But he wondered why he couldn’t get the results his veterinarian saw using stem cell therapy on farm animals’ knees.

“We ended up in a plastic surgeon's office in Beverly Hills, CA, a cattle guy and a banker/cattle kid, and we were way out of place," Wood said.  "But after about 100 days, we went on a golf trip.  We walked 36 holes a day, and didn't have any pain anymore.  And so, something that we felt all of our friends and neighbors--I mean, we're in the cattle business--all of our family, friends all needed this, and none of them were going to Beverly Hills to get it.”

Stem Cells Can Help With A Host Of Issues

That lead him and his business partner to found their own stem-cell therapy clinic in Kansas.

“We've treated 4000 patients, so a couple ranch kids with no background in stem cells actually have started a regenerative medicine clinic, so that we can help further the research, and offer, especially the ag community, because that's most of our business, another alternative to traditional medicine,” said Woods.

He added they’ve seen some amazing results.

“Stem cells' job is to take care of inflammation in your body, so it works on, helps with just regulating your immune system," Woods said.  "So some autoimmune conditions, traumatic brain injury patients, I mean, the stories that keep us coming to work are people that, you know, a traumatic brain injury patient that didn't have any choice and did this along with his therapy and continue to get better quicker. Or MS patients that got off their meds (and) became parents again. I mean, those are the cool things.”

In addition to Manhattan, Woods says they have now opened an additional location in Leawood, KS.
