USDA, Interior Preparing For The Upcoming Wildfire Season
With the start of summer weeks away, and warmer, dryer weather in the forecast, the USDA is preparing for the wildfire season ahead.
“More than 1.1 million acres have burned this year, exceeding the ten-year average," said Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins after receiving the operations wildfire briefing from the U.S. Forest Service, along with Interior Secretary Doug Bergum.
Secretary Bergum cited a joint Wildfire preparedness memo during the briefing.
“This memorandum basically says that we're asking all of the agencies to use all their authorities that they have at their hands to not just fight fires, but to take action against fires," he said.
The memorandum signed during National Wildfire Awareness Month, underscored both current round the clock wildfire containment efforts in states like Arizona and Minnesota, and the public's awareness of their role in wildfire prevention.
