Praise Heaped Upon USDA’s Staff

Sonny Perdue is hard at work as the new Secretary of Agriculture for President Trump’s administration, but he has a lot of help, something he acknowledged at his introduction.

“I want to just thank you for what you’ve already been doing for all these years. The USDA across the nation has a great reputation and I want to thank you for that.”

The career staff at USDA will be a key part of working with Secretary Perdue to try to help producers.

Former Secretary John Block said he’s excited to see Perdue assume office because of Perdue’s knowledge and experience, but also that he knows it’s a team effort.

“I was impressed that Secretary Perdue was so complimentary of the team here at the Department of Agriculture. I have so much respect for all the career people that work here and the job they do and I thought he hit the nail right on the head.”

Sonny Perdue was with President Trump when he signed a bill that put a 20 percent tariff on Canadian lumber, partly in response for trade practices against the U.S. dairy industry.
