Two years after the Port of Portland threatened to close Oregon’s only international container yard, Terminal Six gets new life with a new operator.  Harbor Industrial took over Terminal Six at the first of the year, but formally celebrated the relaunch Wednesday, January 7th, of what’s now called Oregon Container Terminal.  OCT President Tim McCarthy said the new management brings stability to the North Portland facility.

"We have seven ship-to-shore cranes, we have 20,000’ of intermotor railyard with the BNSF and the UP," he said.  "We need to start using it, we need to start growing it."

Albany State Representative Shelly Boshart Davis said the terminal is critical for agricultural businesses, like her own, who ship products to international customers.

"It affects the Willamette Valley, it affects eastern Oregon," Boshart Davis noted.  "And we've seen that when we’ve had troubles here, we’ve seen that it affects the entire state."

OCT’s new “Ship Oregon” program also launched this week, encouraging businesses to move cargo through Oregon ports.
