As U.S. trade officials continue trade negotiations in China this week, trying to hammer out a trade agreement, some farmers wondering if an agreement will help them recoup their losses. And how long will it take to break even?  And what happens if some of those sales, and even market losses, become permanent?

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue said he thinks there will be an immediate step-up in American Ag sales to China once an agreement is reached.

“I think the number that we are looking and discussing with china on purchase numbers will be very very good. and we think it will be multiples of what they've done in the past and will be very good for American agriculture. Again the message to china is you're already importing these products why not import them from us, and help with the trade deficit we have with your country?”

Perdue said he believes the trade agreement will bring almost instant positive results for American farmers.
