Earlier this year, President Trump said the tariffs imposed by the European Union were unfair to American farmers and manufacturing.  While NAFTA negotiations are ongoing, the President has directed Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to meet with EU officials to increase trade between the two markets.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue recently met with Ross.

“Obviously the President has charged him with negotiating with the EU, and we talked about the various tariff levels, and the imbalance we have between the tariffs we charge the EU, and the tariffs they charge us.  And gave him specific asks, that he can negotiate with them on the aluminum and steal.”

The hope is Ross can use the 25% tariff on Steal and the 10% charge on aluminum to encourage the EU to remove barrios for the U.S.
