Oregon Company Working To Address Mealybug
A tiny pest can cause a big problem for grape growers across the Northwest. Oregon State University Extension says mealybug infestations can be hard to spot, since the pest can hide out in vine trunks and even roots. But a company called Orcal, based near Eugene, OR offers a product that can help control mealybug. Thomas Putzel recently spoke about Lime Sulfur Ultra.
"It’s a miticide, insecticide, fungicide. It's something that's very cost effective, but when we're looking at tools to combat pests that are have growing resistance. Lime Sulfur Ultra is one of those products and it's an eradicant, so, you spray it, come out and look in an hour and you're going to know what you killed.”
Putzel added Lime Sulfur Ultra is safe around pollinators and is organic.
“Probably the most cost-effective tool in the barn for mealybug control and it's immediate. You don't have to wait two to three weeks to see if it worked, you know today, And it gets all stages; you get adults, crawlers, and eggs.”
