The USDA released a look at the progress of the winter wheat crop in the Northwest and it shows what looks like a very good crop.

In Washington, 93 percent of winter wheat is in good to excellent condition while 70 percent of Oregon’s wheat is in good to excellent condition.

Washington has also benefited from the rain with 95 percent of topsoil and 93 percent of subsoil having adequate or a surplus of moisture. 76 percent of Oregon’s top soil and 61 percent of the subsoil is at least adequate.

Both states are behind the five-year average in planting though with 94 percent of growers in Washington and 96 percent in Oregon having planted when the average shows planting done at this point.
