The National Milk Producers Federation is asking for California State and Federal regulators to take enforcement actions against yogurt company in Hayward, CA.

The NMPF notes that the company Kite Hill labels their yogurt as “Almond Milk Yogurt.”

President and CEO Jim Mulhern says the claims are, “doubly deceiving, first as it declares the use of ‘almond milk’ as the main ingredient in their foods, and second in calling the resulting product ‘yogurt.’ A whitened slurry of nuts does not make milk, and adding bacteria to that mix and pouring it in a cup does not make yogurt.”

This is part of NMPF’s efforts to classify milk as only coming from a cow and to stop plant-based imitators, and also pointing out what they classify as nutritional inferiority of the non-cow based options.
