Senator Pat Roberts bill on voluntary GMO labeling didn’t move forward in the Senate this week, but is still being worked on.

Representative Dan Newhouse said that he hasn't, “Given up hope we can actually be successful in that effort and avoid a patchwork of laws around the country in all 50 states but have something from a national level with one national standard.”

The House has already passed their bill on GMO labelling that Newhouse said, “Provided a voluntary program. Achieved a balance for both sides of the issue and gave the label of GMO-Free real meaning through a program through the USDA.”

Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley has proposed another GMO labeling bill that would mandate labels for bioengineered ingredients.
