The Washington State Tree Fruit Association has brought in a new Director of Education who will focus on helping growers and packers comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act.

Jacqui Gordon said she is looking forward to collaborating with the industry.

“Our growers need reliable and updated information available. I expect to be able to provide them some guidance and training with food safety aspects they might need and also with FSMA-related topics.”

Gordon said she wants to make sure that the agriculture industry is in compliance with FSMA.

And starting from the idea of protection and prevention is critical according to Gordon.

“They need to identify potential problems in their companies and work on potential solutions to those problems. That is one of the main areas that they have to work on.”

Gordon also stressed how important documenting safety measures and changes are for ag companies.
