Dr. Scott Harper is the new Director of Clean Plant Center Northwest.

Harper said the opportunity was a great combination of his work in academic and scientific areas and he has many hopes for group.

“What I’d like to do is introduce new research initiatives to look at bringing in new technologies, new platforms to better improve the program and serve the industry.”

Harper started the new job at the beginning of January.

The Clean Plant Center is designed to clean up and produce virus-free plants for area farmers.

Harper stressed, “If we don’t start with virus-fee plants, it’s going to cost us an awful lot in the long run in terms of controlling disease and the spread of disease.”

Harper said it’s important the growers reach out to the Clean Plant Center and let them know what they’re seeing and what they need.
