Labor Law Training Coming to Yakima and Wenatchee

As farmers begin to bring in more workers to handle the upcoming season, it’s important to be aware of labor laws so Washington’s Department of Labor and Industries will be holding two days of workshops for ag supervisors and crew bosses.

Hispanic Program Outreach Manager Fabiola Gonzalez said they are going to cover a wide variety of topics like wage and hour requirements, safety, transportation, housing, workers comp and health and safety.

“It is important that if you have employees that will be giving breaks or out in the fields supervising that they come to this workshop and learn the requirements.”

With challenges in the H-2A program and new laws regarding rest breaks, these kinds of workshops can help make sure your farm is in compliance.

The workshops are the 26^th in Yakima, and 27^th in Wenatchee with Spanish sessions in the morning and English in the afternoon.

Gonzalez noted, “It’s free training so I definitely recommend if you have supervisors, workers, foreman, any employer that has workers that do supervision or if the employer or the owner wants to attend and learn all the new changes, we recommend that they come.”
