Rimrock/Retreat Fire Expands to Over 18,000 Acres, Highway 12 Closed
Two big fires continue to grow in size as they keep firefighters on the fire lines today. Highway 12 remains closed from the top of White Pass to Oak Creek as firefighters try and get a handle on the Rimrock/Retreat Fire started Tuesday afternoon.
THE AMERICAN RED CROSS HAS OPENED A SHELTER IN NACHES
The blaze has now burned 18,273 acres. The American Red Cross has opened an Emergency Shelter at Naches Valley High School at 101 West 5th Avenue.
SOME CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE IN EVACUATION LEVELS
According to officials at Yakima Valley Emergency Management evacuation levels have been lifted for some areas;
Longmire Lane to Boyd Road on the north side of Wenas Road
North side of Boyd Road east to Sheep Company Road
West side of Sheep Company Road north to the Horse Trailer Parking area on Old Durr Road. All other evacuation levels remain the same. So far no injuries have been reported despite the fact that hundreds of firefighters are doing dangerous dirty work in the forest in trying to get some containment.
THE BLACK CANYON FIRE CONTINUES TO GROW IN SIZE AS SOME CHANGES ARE MADE IN EVACUATION LEVELS
Meanwhile the Black Canyon Fire continues to burn north of Selah and it's grown from 7800 acres Thursday to 9,657 acres today.
No containment is being reported by fire officials. Some evacuation levels have changed on the Black Canyon Fire; North side of North Wenas Road from Longmire Lane to Maloy Road will remain in Level 3 - Leave Immediately
South side of North Wenas Road from Longmire Lane to Maloy Road will be in Level 2 - Be Ready. All other evacuation areas will remain the same.
