Last week, the USDA rolled out a few updates to the Department's Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2 for producers of poultry and hogs.

"Contract growers, helping them realize an additional stream of income to assist them getting through those economic impacts of the pandemic," said FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux. He noted that works for specialty crops as well.

"Also the sales based commodities we made a change there to allow producer to substitute 2018 sale for 2019 sales. Because of the nature of both contract growers and specialty crops 2019 might not have been an accurate representation of a normal year to be used as an index, so we made that change."

Ducheneaux said that includes grass seed among other sale-based commodities. Eligible producers now have until October 11th to apply for or modify their CFAP-2 applications through local FSA offices.
