Northwest Cherries has released their first estimate of the 2017 season, though James Michael has noted in prior years that this is the least likely to be accurate of their estimates.

The initial estimates project 21.8 million boxes, or just short of 218,000 pounds of fruit for the 2017 season. That would be more than the past couple of years, but less than the record 2012 crop.

The estimate includes a strong Rainier crop which should exceed the past couple of years which saw 1.7 million boxes shipped.

Harvest has been pushed back by a couple of weeks when compared to recent years and is expected to begin in the second week of June.
