Daniel Kaniewski is with FEMA and de is a firm believer in the need to work to mitigate disasters.  He notes when you look nationwide, there is potential areas of risk, but the way the Department is structured, the vast majority of FEMA's funds go only to those areas that have already been hit.  Kaniewski said it's time to take action.  He recently highlighted a new FEMA program he calls building resilient infrastructure and communities.

Of course this is Washington so we have an acronym for that, it's BRIC. BRIC, more specifically, authorizes FEMA to provide 6% of all of those disaster costs in the previous year in a competitive nationwide grant program the next year.

He noted the amounts are expected to reach in to the hundreds of millions of dollars.

“And it's truly available to all of those communities that are at risk now that may or may not have been hit by a disaster. We are working through that with our stake holders on the roll-out, but we are very excited about this,” said Kaniewski.
