Farm Bill discussions are involving several industry leaders, and when it comes to safety net programs, what are they looking for?

David Schemm with the National Association of Wheat Growers said one thing that could be tweaked, is the amount of time to receive payments.

“The current timing of assistance affects my ability to get credit.”

Current timelines are 24 months for ARC and PLC programs to get paid for the previous crop.

Another tweak suggested by Ron Moore of the American Soybean Association is to use more local and individual data to calculate cost of production and yields.

“The closer you can get to my farm, the better off we are when we do those calculations.”

Another suggestion was raising crop reference prices which trigger payments.
