Saturday is National Public Lands Day, a fee free day at federally owned, day-use parks and public lands nationwide.

"National forests, national parks, any other public lands. [Or you can visit] wildlife refuges," said Alice Cohen of the U.S. Forest Service.  She added day use fees such as parking and for other amenities, are waived for these designated days.  The Forest Service has five such fee free days every year, including national Public Lands Day, Saturday, and Veteran's Day, November 11th.  Other entities may have their own additions to the fee Free day calendar.

“The agencies might recognize when they started, so Army Corps of engineer June 16th is their birthday,” Cohen noted.

Parks that participate have information on their websites, including the Forest Service website. Check out the Forest Service's Website for more information.
