WSU will be hosting a set of pruning demonstrations for current and future cosmic crisp apple growers on December 13th at the Sunrise orchard near East Wenatchee and 14th at the Roza orchard in Prosser.

Karen Lewis with WSU Extension said the field days they’ve been offering have made it very challenging to showcase all of the advice given on pruning techniques.

“We need Dr. Musacchi to engage with the industry and we need the industry to engage with us             and it just doesn’t happen with [the current] infrastructure.”

The workshops will discuss different pruning techniques, like click pruning, for different systems.

Lewis said they hope to make this a very educational event.

“This is not a one-way discussion, this is a two-way discussion. There are people who will be attending these pruning demonstrations that have been part of the phase 2 and 3 breeding programs that are familiar with pruning cosmic crisp and/or just type 4 trees.”

Registration is required to any of the one-hour workshops, of which there are four per day.
