A recent survey conducted by North Bridge Communications shows that consumers have positive views of farmers almost universally.

Consultant Phillip Hayes said, “We buried farmers along with a whole list of other people in society and said how do you feel about these folks. People had no idea that this was a survey about agriculture. 86 percent of people had a favorable view of farmers. Most of those people had very favorable views of farmers.”

This provides an opportunity for ag producers to connect and tell their story with consumers.

Hayes said it’s important for farmers to get out there and make those connections with the public.

“Consumers are more interested and educated about their food today than really any time in recent memory. There are 8,268 farmers markets today. That’s up 200 percent since 2006, 400 percent since 1994. That may not be the definition that we all have for farmers but people want to interact with farmers.”
