The U.S. State Department announced their intentions to begin renegotiations of the Columbia River Treaty in early 2018.

Washington Representative Cathy McMorris-Rodgers said she was happy to hear the process is underway noting, “We must move forward with renegotiations to ensure this agreement remains mutually-beneficial.”

McMorris-Rodgers says she’s had several conversations with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson about the importance of renegotiating the deal and in October of this year was one of the co-authors of a letter to Ambassador David MacNaughton urging renegotiation.

She was also one of the authors of a letter to renegotiate during the Obama Administration.
