The National Christmas Tree Association said yes, there is a bit of a Christmas Tree shortage.

Marsha Gray, Director of Communications said, “We are down in production for sure. We do have fewer trees coming out of the harvest this year.”

Gray noted that means tree prices could be a little higher than last year.

Gray did emphasize that people shouldn’t panic though.

“We’re not running out of trees. It means we won’t be fulfilling orders maybe for locations that sell that there year after year. Our regular customers, the regular retail lots, the garden centers, the box stores; they’ll all have their trees.”

The shortage will most likely be in Frasier Fir trees where demand has grown the most.

Gray said supplies could be tight this year and for the next couple of years as production is ramped back up, but it does take several years for the tide to shift.
