The 2017 Ag Census will begin soon and the USDA is reminding producers of just how important the information they gather is.

Joe Parsons with the USDA’s National Agriculture Statistics Service said, “The Census of Agriculture is the only source of comprehensive data down to the county level that shows the change and structure of U.S. agriculture.”

Parsons also noted that they’ve begun to improve the questionnaire process for anyone who fills it out online.

“After they answer a few screening questions they’ll only get questions after that that would relate to them so if they have only corn and soybeans, they won’t be asked about cattle, sheep or goats.”

There’s also demonstration census questionnaires that you can fill out online so that you know how the system will work. Just go to AgCensus.USDA.Gov.
