A bill that would change how the U.S. Forest Service funds and fights wildfires recently passed the House and USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue has given it his stamp of approval.

Perdue said it deals with funding problems first and then forest management.

“I will also us to do the things ahead of time, thinning and insect controls and underbrush, to help prevent some of the forest fires that we’ve seen in Northern California, the Northern Rockies, Oregon and others to get ahead of those and do the things that will help prevent the major forest fires in the future.”

And now that the bill has passed the House, what’s next.

“There are several bipartisan efforts on the Senate side that we think we’ll see a real solution.”

Perdue sais he will work with Senate lawmakers to craft a bill.
