Ag Secretary Sonny Purdue is shining the spotlight on one private organization's efforts to combat food waste.

"What Patrick Bultema and Food Maven are trying to do are recovering some of the food, and obviously commercially selling it at a discount to other providers, but then also donating to food banks and other anti-hunger teams 30% of their supply."

It's estimated that $200 Billion of food is wasted in this country every year.

"If you could capture 10% of that, that's a lot of money, and a lot of economic return for people in the business."

Purdue made the comments during a visit to a Food Maven distribution center in Colorado.  The USDA Secretary stopped off in Colorado during his fourth Back to Our Roots RV tour, which also included stops in New Mexico, Wyoming, and Nebraska.
