Winter canola variety trail harvest is complete for Washington State University and the University of Idaho.  Karen Sowers, Oilseed specialist with WSU Extension said yields were off from 2017.  She noted the harvest is not an indication that 2018 was a dismal year or a failure, but just closer to normal.

“The yields this year were more average, then above average for the most part, of course there’s always the outliers of quite a bit higher and lower, depending upon planting conditions, field management, and sometimes variety.”

Sowers added weather factors likely played more of a role in the lower yields than other management factors.  The results of this year’s canola variety trail are available On-line.
