The USDA recently rolled out three initiatives designed to assist the livestock industry and improve marketing in the wake of a summer market disruptions reported over the past couple of years.

"We're moving forward with some things that we identified USDA could be engaged in and congress has moved forward with several proposals being introduced but also response to the report," noted marketing and regulatory programs Undersecretary, Greg Ibach.

He added the Department of Ag lead initiatives include producer education to expand risk management strategies funded by National Institute for Food and Agriculture, or NIFA, competitive grants. Efforts to encourage increase immediate use of USDA market news information and upcoming webinars on cattle and carcass grading, and establishment of producer-oriented USDA Cattle and Carcass grading correlation trading centers.
