A veterinary student graduating with $150,000 in debt has a hard time saying yes to a rural farm job that pays $50,000 less than other options. That math is pushing new vets away from the farms that need them most.

It’s an issue across the Northwest, and across the nation; not enough large animal veterinarians, whether that’s for rural communities, large scale livestock operations, or anything in between.

A proposed bill could change the way Idaho invests in future veterinarians. It’s all about keeping talent local and tackling a pressing agricultural need.
