Perdue Highlights Broadband as Critical to Rural Development
Broadband is just as important to rural America has roads, rivers, water and any utility according to Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.
“The farmers are using more telemetry for irrigation control, for precision agriculture. They’re using the technology of connectivity today.”
Perdue also notes that recruitment could be more successful if there is broadband internet in rural areas.
“If we’re going to keep bright, young farm kids on the farm, we got to get them connectivity because they’re not going to stay there if they can’t play Minecraft or do other things on these devices.”
Perdue said he is working with the FCC and believes there will be movement on this issue soon.
