On Wednesday, Representative Dan Newhouse introduced a pair of bills that he says would reform the Endangered Species Act.  He said this is an effort to add more accountability to the federal government.

“Plus, improve the ability of local governments to be heard, have their voices heard in any kind of a listening process.  So, it really, I think will help bring to the local area, more say in a listening process.”

In addition to offering local communities additional options to weigh in on EAS decisions, Newhouse says his legislation would also make available on the internet data used by the federal government when they determine what species are or are not on the list.  Newhouse said this legislation is not in response to any specific animal, such as the gray wolf or the grizzly.  Earlier versions on both bills passed the House during the last Congressional session.
