An icon on and off the hardwood is making his way to eastern Washington.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be speaking at the Capitol Theatre for the Yakima Town Hall Guest Speaker Series on May 25, 2022.

Abdul-Jabbar rose to prominence as a 3-time NCAA Champion before demolishing NBA record books while paving the way for the next generation of players, both on and off the court. An introspective man, Abdul-Jabbar received acclaim as a writer, screenwriter, speaker, activist, and actor.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA's all-time leading scorer, a 6-time MVP (still an NBA record), 19-time All-Star (NBA record), and 6-time NBA Champion. Even though he needs no introduction, it is still fun to rattle off his accomplishments.

As a writer, Kareem is a three-time winner of the Columnist of the Year Award. He is also credited for his work as a screenwriter on Veronica Mars. His activism and other social endeavors have left a lasting impact on American culture. He has served as an ambassador for the United States, been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and has written multiple best-selling books.

How do you buy tickets to the Yakima Town Hall Guest Speaker Series?

While you cannot buy tickets for individual speakers, you do have the opportunity to see four speakers each season. Next season's list of speakers includes Maria Shriver, ex-wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger and political leader on her own merits, and Amanda Knox, who was wrongfully accused of murdering her roommate while they lived in Italy. Next season will be the 50th Anniversary of Yakima Town Hall's guest speaker series at the Capitol Theatre.

A-Z: Celebrities You Didn't Know Were From Washington

Who knew Washington state was home to so many celebrities? So many, in fact, that it was really hard to pick who made the list. There were so many athletes and musicians to choose from that we started to look in other directions. We did have one rule, however. There are no serial killers or career criminals on this list. I would like to thank Jeff Deminski from New Jersey for this wonderful idea.
