Ibach: We Want Promote Relationships Outside of DC
During a recent speech, Greg Ibach, the Department of Agriculture’s Undersecretary for marketing and regulatory programs spoke on principles that are being proposed in the next farm bill. He said when it comes to marketing the USDA wants to enhance partnerships, not only in DC, but across the nation. And one of those areas, would focus on animal health as well as eradicating pests and diseases.
“What would be the impact if Foot and Mouth disease were to come to the United States? And I know in the pork industry and in the beef industry there’s a lot of conversation about working some type of programs into the Farm Bill that will address the prevention and the protection against FMD and that’s very much on our radar screen as well.”
Ibach said in addition to those relationships, the USDA is looking to help out the specialty crop industry.
“Organic is also an important component and there are many concerns right about how those regulations that America’s organic producers comply with compare to that of their competitors with products coming in from overseas,” Ibach said.
