Today’s consumer wants to know from where their food comes.  But as consumers become further removed from the farm, it’s challenging to provide consumers with all the information they demand.  Melissa Brewer, director of communications at Certified Angus Beef LLC, said today’s consumer is very different than consumers from just a generation ago.

“Today they are connected more digitally than they ever have been before, they are interested in putting their dollars toward products they believe in and that they believe brings a different value proposition than possibly in the past.  And they are curious, they want to have confidence as they go into the kitchen.”

Brewer said that provide Angus producers an unique opportunity moving forward.  She added they are also trying to go directly after consumers with education that will help them make better purchases.

“When we look at providing apps, like the Roast Perfect app, a tool that you put in how much beef you need to purchase or how many people you want to serve, it calculates what roast you should be looking at and does all of the hard work for you.”

Brewer adds convenience is also important for consumers these days.  She also noted that technology has impacted the consumer landscape for good.  Brewer was a featured speaker at the 2017 National Angus Convention in Fort Worth.
